Christward: A Hopeful and Joyful Embrace of Jesus Christ of Nazareth (Chapter Two)

What We Must Do ~ Participant Guide (pg. 17-50)

❀Command of Emotion

The One who examines the thoughts and emotions is a righteous God.  Psalm 7:9

All that is within us is to Praise God.  Psalm 103:1

Part of praising or blessing His name is expressing gratitude and admiration.

~ His commands are not given so we simply improve ourselves.

~ His aim, our aim, is to be like HIM.

~ One way we can praise God is by finding His commands to be so kind, so loving, so compassionate, and so merciful that we want to mimic them.

Why we might not be interested in allowing Him to command our emotions:

ex:  Jeremiah 2:11-13

❀Blind Guides

Matthew 15:13-14

~  It begins with seeds.

~ We are always gathering seeds and planting.  What are you gathering and planting?

~ Jesus said the Father WILL uproot what is not of Him.

Pit ~ a deep hole for burial or destruction.

~ Living for God and not self, will require resolve.

Matthew 26:41

~ Agree with God’s word

Invitation to put a ♥︎ next to challenging verses.

The disciplined life is a must.

Matthew 26:41, Galatians 6:1, James 1:14

~ IN Christ Jesus we are a new creation, justified, righteous, accepted, loved, and adopted.

~ We were once dead, but NOW we have been brought to life BY the Spirit.

  • We no longer do things the dead do.
  • We do things people who are alive do.
  • We embrace Christ as infinitely significant, valuable, and worthy of esteem.
  • We do these things because of our renewed mind IN Christ.

~ This new identity is vital in our ability to follow His commands in our conduct and in what/ how to feel.

Ephesians 4:18-24

~ We put off our old corrupt nature (lies, anger, wrath, malice, slander foul talk).

~ We do not walk in futility.

~ We put on compassion, kindness, lowliness, meekness, and patience.

~ We speak TRUTH.

~ The new person consists of attitudes and emotions and practices that Jesus has called us to become.
