Are You Looking for the Star?

All of you have one or have at least seen an Advent calendar. The purpose of the calendar is to possess a visual reminder of the anticipation of a most spectacular day – the celebration of the birth of Christ!   As I was observing our calendar, I noticed we were affixing the numerically printed ornaments at the bottom of the tree in an ascending manner. A conversation began regarding the preparation we all engage in during this season and how it too reaches its zenith on the 25th. The preparation is in the shopping, in the greetings, in the meals and most significant of all, in our hearts. Has your heart been anticipating the most spectacular day? Has your heart cast all else aside in longing for a renewed reminder of the promise of Romans 5:5? The hope (Christ Jesus) that does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us!

During this season our hearts can be set on certain hopes. Maybe it is an anticipated gift, a favorite meal, meeting with people we have missed, or reuniting with family members. All of these things have the potential to disappoint. Romans 5:5 informs us that we are given a hope that WILL NOT disappoint. Not ever. Why? because God’s love has been poured out in our hearts and testifies to us of this truth. As you complete the finishing touches to your Christmas celebration and as you make the progression towards the last reminder on the Advent calendar, let the “star” of Christmas shine bright in your heart. Remember the star that glistened in the sky over 2 millennium ago announcing the perfect time for creation’s redemption? That perfect redemptive work applies to all who gather this season under the star of Jesus, that Darling of Heaven. Pray for a renewed awareness of what this Darling gives: peace, hope, and love. Don’t look for it wrapped in a small package hidden away under your tree. No, this gift comes lavishly bursting through the seams of your circumstances with a shout of Hallelujah!

John 1:14  The Word became flesh and took up residence among us.  We observed His glory, the glory as the One and Only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.  Has anyone memorized this one yet?

In His grace,

  1. I have memorized John 14:1. I really want to keep my focus on Christ this Christmas and not be distracted by all the activities going on!

  2. This year we have really tried focusing on Him and doing advent devotionals as a family. It has been a huge attitude change and more peace around our house. Focusing on Jesus and He is the reason for the season but also our whole year. Thank you Jesus for redeeming us and your best Christmas gift ever!

  3. Oh the Darling of Heaven! He is all I need!
I have to confess I have taken my eyes off of the star in times of busyness this Christmas season. I have had to set my eyes back to heaven and re-focus a few times.
