Rattled? Not Me

“David fled that day from Saul’s presence and went to King Achish of Gath. But Achish’s servants said to him, “Isn’t this David, the king of the land?  Don’t they sing about him during their dances:  Saul has killed his thousands, but David his tens of thousands?”  David took this to heart and became very afraid of King Achish of Gath, so he pretended to be insane in their presence.  He acted like a madman around them, scribbling on the doors of the gate and letting saliva run down his beard.  “Look!  You can see the man is crazy,” Achish said to his servants, “Why did you bring him to me?  Do I have such a shortage of crazy people that you brought this one to act crazy around me?  Is this one going to come into my house?” (1 Samuel 21:10-15)

If you’re like me, you can’t help but enjoy the humor!  David was God’s chosen anointed king! (1 Samuel 16:1-13)  However, he was so rattled in Gath that he began feigning madness!  People called him crazy!  God’s appointed king….acting crazy?  David had stood up to lions, bears, and even Goliath.   But when Achish’s servants recognized him and began recounting his successes, David’s heart deceived him and he was discouraged.  Instead of trusting God he acted on impulse and pretended as if he had lost his wits.  Not what we would expect to see in God’s new king…

  1. Who has been ‘rattled’ today? Yesterday maybe? Acted a little crazy? Who me??? Oh yes, it happened. I am reminded of 2Timothy 2:13 “If we are faithless, HE remains faithful, HE cannot deny himself.” What a wonder He is to me. What a precious gift to be so dearly loved, even in my times of unbelief and disobedience to Him. HE REMAINS FAITHFUL. Confess and He will forgive and restore, continuously!
((hugs)) to all on this beautiful day!

  2. I choose the Lord’s way! I am so thankful that we do have a choice how we are to live life each day. When we go about our day we choose if we are going to be at peace or turmoil. Just by how we respond by whether we choose to think on the things of God and trust in Him or try to take it upon ourselves. I know the outcome usually if I take control! I am grateful to have the choice and I ask you Lord to help me to choose You each time. To have that awareness each morning as I start the day to choose You and Your way!

  3. Oh yes Lord! Your great adventures take us outside our comfort zone! Can I get a witness? I remember when I began hearing the Holy Spirit to pray for a stranger, to speak something to someone, led to a place I had never thought of going, etc. Ah, an invitation He has called me to. Excitement, nervous, fearful, inadequacy, bending to avoid the opportunity. After, knowing I missed being g a blessing or being blessed. Next time, I will respond differently! Next time! Finally, I submitted to the prompting! Faithful is our God, Jesus prepared the hearts, words and way! Astounded and amazed every time! There are out of comfort zone adventures with our husbands, family members, church family and strangers that our beloved Jesus wants to touch through us DIVA’S! I love the imagery of Jesus saying “Never the less, not My will but Your will”. Let us pursue and look for God appointments from this day forward in Christ! Confident and assured that the places and people presented before us, He is in front of us and prepared us for such a time. I have found in my walk obedience to the Holy Spirit keeps the fire fanned and the fullness of the Holy Spirit operating in me in sound and self-controlled actions. Oh that the Lord would invite us to journey with Him and to see His glory deposited! In Christ! In His grace! Love you beloved and bold Diva’s!

  4. Today, my devotional reading was along this same line. It talked about not searching for security in this world but to focus our attention on His Presence. This continual contact with Him will keep us in His Peace. So as I go about this day, I will “Fix my eyes not on what is see (my circumstances), but on what is unseen (His Presence). 2 Cor. 4:18. I pray we will all rise above our circumstances and come to rely on His Power.

  5. Wow is this hitting home for me! Thank you sweet Lord for enlightening me on something that was staring me in the face and yet I could not see it!! How awesome are You to bring this to my attention. Praying for all you beautiful divas today. Be strong and courageous (Joshua 1:6).

  6. What a good reminder! So often I respond quick & rash which tends be like a person who is nuts. I have had to start praying every day for God to give me Godly, Jesus like responses and impulses. I’m learning to pray for the Holy Spirit to fill me up and help me respond better before I act. When I don’t do this, I can tell my responses and reactions are not the best. I think about the verse that says “woe to those that entangle another to sin” I don’t want to be that person that causes others to sin. I want to choose God and behave confidently in love!
