How Powerful is God’s Word to You?

Greetings in the Lord DIVAs (Divinely Inspired Victoriously Anointed)!

When you intentionally allow the Word of God access to your soul no matter what pain you suffer, no matter what trial you endure, no matter what you may consider a lack…the Word has the POWER to strengthen your heart, mind, and soul and to surpass your greatest need in the way no human remedy can ever imagine coming close.

The thing we need revealed more THAN ANYTHING else in our lives is the powerfully transforming Word of God spoken boldly from our own mouth into our very real situation every single day.  Not meekly, not with hesitation, and not like we have never heard it proclaimed before.  It should be declared as if your situation depends on it.  Be Bold DIVAs!  Being bold in faith is NOT contingent on God affirmatively answering your prayers.  Bold faith has EVERYTHING to do with God being the magnificent Creator and Sustainer of the universe and the life giver of  your very soul.8c8deb06b55ecc6e9e40d6864602ae1d

Let’s take a look at some powerful verses from the Word.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”  Matthew 11:28-29

“He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless.  Even youths will become weak and tired, and young men will fall in exhaustion.  But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength.  They will soar high on wings like eagles.  They will run and not grow weary.  They will walk and not faint.”  Isaiah 40:29-31

“No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.”  Romans 8:37-39

“But all who listen to me will live in peace, untroubled by fear of harm.” Proverbs 1:33

“So we do not lose heart. Though our outer man is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to give strong support to those whose heart is strong toward him. 2 Chronicles 16:9a

“I beseech Thee, O Lord God of heaven the great and awesome God, who preserves the covenant and loving-kindness for those who love Him and keep His commandments, let Your ear now be attentive and Your eyes open to hear the prayer of your servant…” Nehemiah 1:4b-11

“Although our iniquities testify against us, O Lord, act for Thy name’s sake! ” Jeremiah 14:7a

“He saved us —not by works of righteousness that we had done, but according to His mercy, through the washing of regeneration and renewal by the Holy Spirit.”  Titus 3:5

Do you feel the renewing work of the Spirit?  If not, ask the Lord to make it fresh for you as your soul yields and anticipates the Spirit’s presence.

“Just who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?”  1 Samuel 17:26

I personally turn this around and say, “Who are you ______ (fear, anger, unbelief…) that you should defy a warrior the in army of the living God!”

Turn Scripture into prayer if you intend to make a powerful difference in your day.  What Scripture can you recommend in the comment section that have proved potent in your own prayer life?  Be bold daily for the cause of Christ!

In his grace,

Are You Wresting With God?

“Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him until daybreak. When the man saw that He could not defeat him, He struck Jacob’s hip socket as they wrestled and dislocated his hip. Then He said to Jacob, “Let Me go, for it is daybreak.”  But Jacob said, “I will not let You go unless You bless me.”  “What is your name?” the man asked.  “Jacob,” he replied.  “Your name will no longer be Jacob,” He said. “It will be Israel because you have struggled with God and with men and have prevailed.”  Then Jacob asked Him, “Please tell me Your name.”  But He answered, “Why do you ask My name?” And He blessed him there.  Jacob then named the place Peniel, “For I have seen God face to face,” he said, “and I have been delivered.”  Genesis 32:24-30

Greetings fellow sojourners!  Don’t you adore the One who answers when you call, who vindicates you, who frees you from affliction, and who is gracious to you?  (Psalm 4:1)  Indeed I do!  Let’s give praise to God!

The meaning of the word ‘wrestle’ is to struggle with a difficulty or a problem.   Jacob spent his life wrestling with difficulties.  Before he was born God blessed him with the promise in Genesis 25:23 yet Jacob spent his life contriving to obtain what he desired.  We would do well to know that we do not contrive to obtain the blessings of God.  The life of submission to God is the life that obtains the blessing.  Do you feel you are wrestling with God in any area of your life right now?  Do you find yourself wrestling to have what you want, when you want it, how you want it, because it is ‘your life’?  Something interesting to think about is Jacob held on to the angel at the risk of his life to get the blessing for himself; but Jesus held on to God at the cost of his life to get the blessing for us.  No better time for a sincere “thank you Lord”!

Before the intense meeting was to take place with his brother Esau, Jacob went off to be alone in earnest prayer.  As Jacob was preparing to lay his case out before God, an angel lays hold of him.

Jacob hung on to wrestle with God to get the blessing and used all his strength, as it was customary for him to wrestle and contrive his whole life to get what he wanted.   When the angel of God struck him on his hip to weaken him (not because he was being overpowered) Jacob no doubt realized that through this weakness he would be made strong in the Lord (hence the name Israel).  He would  also come to know that the blessings of God are not obtained by contriving but through submission.  This lesson would mean more to him than any of the contriving of his past existence.

In our lives, the blessing we are searching for is not going to be found by more striving or by any deceiving. It comes by submitting to God.  Do you find yourself wrestling with God in any area of your life right now – submit to Him instead.  If there is wrestling to be done it shall be done with our own fleshly desires when they are out of line with the will and Word of God.

Excerpt from Oswald Chambers:

“You must learn to wrestle against the things that hinder your communication with God, and wrestle in prayer for other people; but to wrestle with God in prayer is unscriptural. If you ever do wrestle with God, you will be crippled for the rest of your life. If you grab hold of God and wrestle with Him, as Jacob did, simply because He is working in a way that doesn’t meet with your approval, you force Him to put you out of joint (see Genesis 32:24-25). Don’t become a cripple by wrestling with the ways of God, but be someone who wrestles before God with the things of this world, because “we are more than conquerors through Him…” (Romans 8:37). Wrestling before God makes an impact in His kingdom.”

DIVAs, let’s stop wrestling to hang on to our fleshly perspectives and desires as we see them and start hanging on with both hands to Jesus.  If you do, all other ‘wrestlings’ will fall to the ground.  Lose your life in Him and receive the blessing of gaining the life you were meant for.  It turns everything around.

In His grace,

The Enticement and Awaiting Trap

“Perhaps God will grant them repentance leading them to the knowledge of the truth. Then they may come to their senses and escape the Devil’s trap, having been captured by him to do his will.”   2 Timothy 2:25-26

Greetings sweet things!  I trust you are dwelling in the unfathomable love of the Lord Jesus Christ because nothing else will do!  Our home happens to be surrounded by many trees and as you know, squirrels love trees.  During the tenure in our home we have had our share of squirrel escapades – including catching and releasing squirrels in other wooded areas as well as nursing a baby back to health.  A few weeks ago we discovered a squirrel had found its way into our attic so we again set out our squirrel trap.  To lure the squirrel into the trap you must put something enticing in the cage they can’t resist or you won’t easily catch what my kids call ‘the hobo’.  For us, peanut butter has enticed nicely so we put in an amount that sure looked to be able to serve the entire squirrel block. If nothing else, it wouldn’t be able to open its mouth to chew for a while because of the enormous helping of peanut butter!  My husband said something during all this that seriously got me musing.  If you want to catch something in a trap you must provide the bait necessary to entice, or the thing you intend to trap will NEVER fall for it.

Satan sets his trap for us daily.  He is clever enough to realize we will never fall for his dishonoring trap unless what he is using to entice us is something we can’t help but fall for.  And we fall for it….over and over and over again.  Why aren’t we wise enough to see it for the trap it really is?  I began getting annoyed with this whole Satan trap business and started thinking…..if our behavior is such that nothing entices us (outside of what God says is ok) then there is no trap of Satan’s we will fall for.  So how do we become victorious in this area?  Comprise a list of triggers that never fail to have the power to compel you to act in ways you regret. Below is a short list of enticing triggers and some typical human nature responses to get you started thinking.

You may be thinking why are these ‘enticing’?  They are enticing because they prick a damaged emotion that only the Lord can heal but instead we have covered it over with our human nature thoughts and the enemy knows this.  When we COVER it instead of EXPOSE it, to the One who is our Mighty Physician, we hinder ourselves from Kingdom purposes because now we are entangled in a ‘trap’ and have made ourselves available for Satan’s unrighteous purposes.  It may start off easy enough with some negative self-talk but if we are not wise we will begin believing what we are hearing and stop hearing and believing God.

When something/someone entices you to be triggered, you begin to have the usual responses that emerge from damaged emotions and you FEEL and THINK those same historical feelings of who you believe you are, and how worthy or unworthy you believe you are destined to be.  This is the trap Satan desires you to fall for.

We want to identify what entices us to be triggered so there is NOTHING the enemy can use to entice us into his trap again.  Now THAT is Victorious Living!  I don’t know about you but that makes me want to skip!

Let’s take this verse and magnify some words to drive the meaning home.  “Then they will come to their senses (return to soberness) and escape the Devil’s trap, having been captured by him to do his will.”  Below are biblical definitions of the words.

trap is a snare.  It implies something unexpected and sudden.  A snare is whatever brings destruction or loss.  The allurements to sin by which the devil holds one bound.  An example is a noose of snares in which animals are entangled and caught.

Being captured is to take alive (make a prisoner of war) to take captive, to catch.

The will is a determination. An active choice, an inclination, desire, or pleasure.  It is what one wishes or has determined shall be done.

By the way, this morning we caught a squirrel in our trap.  We love squirrels (when they are not in our house).  That little thing looks so helpless; trapped with no way out.  Never forget that when your enemy sees you have fallen for his trap he DOES NOT look upon you with compassion.  He means to devour you alive.  Your Father is the One who springs you from that caged trap every time.  Identify your enticing triggers and lay them at the foot of the Cross of Christ.  Sweet thing, you were never fashioned to be caged, you were created to be completely free.screen-shot-2016-09-13-at-6-35-31-am

What Are You Doing With The Time Entrusted To You?

“Our earthly bodies are planted in the ground when we die,

but they will be raised to live forever.

Our bodies are buried in brokenness, but they will be raised in glory.

They are buried in weakness, but they will be raised in strength.

They are buried as natural human bodies, but they will be raised as spiritual bodies.

For just as there are natural bodies, there are also spiritual bodies.”

1 Corinthians 15:42-44

Amen to that.

As I was considering the unwelcomed emotions associated with the passing of a loved one, I pondered a few things that I wonder if you have ever stood looking and reflecting upon.  First off, I am nothing but honored to be able to walk through this passing life with you even if it is only for a fraction of our time.   Secondly, our impact on this planet is way too short, isn’t it?  Would you humor me as I quote a line from my favorite movie?  Frodo is lamenting to Gandolf about how he wished a difficult task had not come to him and how he desired to return to an easier life.  In wisdom Gandalf informed Frodo, “so do all who live to see such times.  But that is not for them to decide.  All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.” (J.R.R. Tolkien, Lord of the Rings)  DIVAs, life is much too hard and way too short.  When life gets challenging it is not prudent to look back longing for an easier life or wishing you did not have the circumstances you have been assigned but instead to forge ahead, making the most of the time you have been entrusted with.

Living a life that impacts others positively for the cause of Christ is the best use of your energy and resources.  What are you doing with the time that has been entrusted to you?  Do you long for an easy life or are you making the most of the days (even the most strenuous seasons) God has placed before you so that you have no real regrets?

Boldly Love those you have been entrusted with and recall with fondness those who have slipped from your gaze.  I pray these verses will comfort you when your heart needs it most.

“And the day you die is better than the day you are born.”  Ecclesiastes 7:1

“Yes, we are fully confident, and we would rather be away from these earthly bodies, for then we will be at home with the Lord.”  2 Corinthians 5:8

“Good people pass away; the godly often die before their time.  But no one seems to care or wonder why.  No one seems to understand that God is protecting them from the evil to come.”  Isaiah 57:1

“Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in Me, even if he dies, will live.”  John 11:25
